Art Director and Creative Strategist

The Art Director and Creative Strategist will serve as an integral member of the client/product marketing team. This individual will have primary responsibility for the leadership of creative development, design and strategy in support of current and future LIFT client work and the successful execution of a creative launch plan to support go-to-market initiatives in the life science space (pharma, biotech, devices, etc.). This individual will support LIFT in both a production artist (graphic design) and leadership (strategic art direction and account support) capacity. Opening is available in our Chattanooga, Raleigh and Palm Beach offices.

  • Design/craft creative and messaging capable of evolving across multiple stages of the consumer healthcare and pharma product development lifecycles (from science to medical and commercial); use market, published academic/research and ethnographic brand insights to develop and guide creative decision making, where appropriate

  • Lead and/or participate in the development and design of thoughtful and human-centric brand/creative programs and associated deliverables—including tactical plans, illustrative treatments, storyboards and comps, production creative assets, performance assessments/updates, etc.—in accordance with client goals and objectives

  • Lead, motivate, collaborate with, and/or oversee internal and external creative assets in the development, deployment, and enhancement of strategies across key communication touchpoints in accordance with client goals and objectives; collaborate effectively with other members of the LIFT team (client service, strategy, insights, executive/management, etc.) to maximize team effectiveness and realize synergies where possible

  • Monitor effectiveness of creative initiatives (in collaboration with account manager and/or chief creative strategist), directing and/or executing strategic course-corrections when necessary

  • Develop and manage budget/resources required for an effective launch; proactively ensure launch readiness ahead of FDA action date (champing the development of launch readiness reports and quarterly business reviews); ensure that all plans, strategies, tactics, and other associated deliverables are in strict compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and/or compliance guidelines as prescribed by the client

  • Lead and participate in all presentations related to creative strategy and execution related to life science clients and prospects, internal and external, as requested.

  • Build strong relationships with external stakeholders, including key opinion leaders, where appropriate

  • Participate in planning of and attendance at advisory boards, strategic design studios, trade/industry conferences or congresses; travelling to client meetings and onsite programs as needed, etc.

  • Proactively keeps up with and understanding industry best practices and emerging strategies in support the development of new creative, innovative, and out-of-the-box approaches in all marketing communication strategies; serve as an internal resource and subject matter expert for all LIFT team members and associates

  • Undergraduate degree in art, graphic design, or creative equivalent; advanced degree, concentration, or double major with a science focus preferred, but not required; expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications is mandatory.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years pharmaceutical design and marketing experience, at least 5 years small/mid-size agency experience in the US and EU strongly preferred

  • Have led or played a key role in a creative commercial launch (creative/art direction and strategic planning) for at least one pharma/biotech product in the US (orphan product experience and/or US rheumatology and cardiovascular experience a plus)

  • Demonstrated track record in engagement planning, providing strategic and tactical concepts/ideas to clients; Demonstrable experience in preparing for and presenting new business pitches, RFP responses, etc. required

  • Strong managerial and project management experience—e.g. oversight of creatives, designers, writers and freelancers across multiple disciplines and/or areas of client business—required.

  • Deep understanding and compliance with all regulations governing pharmaceutical marketing and the PhRMA code (demonstrable brand, Med Legal and FDA submission experience required)
